Ep 276 - RE-RELEASE | Matrescence: The word we all need Lucy Jones

Welcome to this week’s Motherkind episode, the show that is going to help you navigate the massive challenges of life as a modern mother with more self-awareness, clarity and Confidence.

In December, we walk our talk, and I take some time off recording to be with my family and recharge before next year. So I've re-released for you the most popular episodes of the past six months. These are the episodes you loved to share with friends, you emailed about and deemed to be the most helpful.

This week’s episode is with Lucy Jones. She is an investigative journalist, and award-winning author and has just written a new book called Matrescence.

Matresence is one of my favourite words and subjects ever. It describes the process of becoming a mother - the confusing discombobulating cocktail of emotions that happens when we transition from woman to mother.

All the physical, emotional and spiritual changes. A bit like the transition from teenager to adult.

Listen to hear about:

  • What matresence means and its anthropological roots

  • Our position as a mother in today’s society and how it’s geared to be against mothers

  • Why we need more support in society and Lucy’s thoughts on how we can receive that

If only all mothers knew this word, I think we would have found it so much easier to be kind to ourselves, knowing it’s meant to be a bumpy journey.
